The church at Broomknoll, Airdrie, built in 1804, has its roots in the Associate Presbytery, as a Burgher congregation (sometimes referred to as Broomknowe). The congregation joined the Church of Scotland in 1839 (also known as Broomknoll Chapel). At the Disruption of 1843 the minister, Rev James Findlay, and his congregation 'came out' and adhered to the Free Church, continuing to worship in the same building. A new manse was built in 1875, followed by a new church in 1889. The charge passed to the United Free Church in 1900, and back to the Established Church in 1929 as Airdrie Broomknoll Church of Scotland. At this time stained glass memorial windows were intalled and the addition of a vesty and session rooms followed in 1939. A union with the congregation of Airdrie Flowerhill took place in 2016; the united charge taking the name Airdrie Cairnlea Church of Scotland. |
