The congregation of Garvald Free Church, which sat within the Presbytery of Haddington and Dunbar, was established in 1843, at the time of the Disruption, when the minister of the Parish church of Garvald and the majority of his congregation adhered to the Free Church. Worship took place for a short time in a barn until a church was erected later in the year. In 1900, upon the union of the Free Church and the United Presbyterians, Garvald Free Church became Garvald United Free Church and in 1909 the status of the congregation was reduced. Between the years 1915-1921 Garvald United Free sustained a continued vacancy and in 1921 the charge was linked with that of Yester. |
