The church as Lossiemouth has its origins in the United Secession Church when in 1840 the Presbytery of eligin appointed a probationer, Mr Andrew Reid to supply sermon at Lossiemouth. Mr Reid was popular with the congregation and a call was addressed to him. Mr Reid accepted the call and became the first ordained minister at Lossiemouth in 1841. The congregation passed to the United Presbyterian Church in 1847 and later in 1900 to the United Free Church as Lossiemouth St James'. In 1929 the United Free Church came back into the Established Church and the congregation in Lossiemouth followed suit becoming Lossiemouth St James' Church of Scotland. |
