West Calder United Presbyterian Church was formed as a Burgher congregation in 1794 by Edinburgh Burgher Presbytery. A church was built in 1795 and the first minister ordained in 1798. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as West Calder Harwood, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, later known as Polbeth Harwood, is in the presbytery of West Lothian (formerly Edinburgh) and was in the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
