Stewartfield (Stuartfield ) United Presbyterian Church began as a United Secession congregation formed in 1820 as a result of a local dispute over the union between Burghers and Antiburghers. This necessitated removal from the existing church at Clola and the construction of a new one in the village of Crichie, or Stewartfield. The first minister was ordained in 1823. The congregation adhered to the United Presbyterians and anticipated the union of 1900 by uniting with Old Deer Free Church in 1897, the new church being United Presbyterian, but meeting in the former Free Church building. It passed to the United Free Church as Old Deer, with which Fetterangus was linked between 1920 and 1924. The Church of Scotland charge was Deer Stuartfield, which united with Deer as Deer in 1953. It was in the presbytery of Deer and the synod of Aberdeen. |
