Johnstone East Relief Church was formed as a congregation in 1829, with a church built in the same year. The first minister was ordained in 1830. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Johnstone East, and to the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Paisley and the synod of Clydesdale, united with Johnstone West as Johnstone St Paul's in 1965. |
