Haddington West Associate (Antiburgher) Church arose from a dispute between the Antiburgher church in the town and their minister in 1807, leading to his deposition and the formation of Haddington West, whose first minister was appointed in 1809. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, and to the Church of Scotland. The congregation united with Haddington St John's as Haddington West in 1932. Haddington West was linked with Garvald and Morham in 1980. The Church of Scotland charge is in the presbytery of Lothian (formerly Haddington and Dunbar) and was in the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale until the abolition of synods in 1993. |
