Dores and Bona Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when almost the whole congregation of Dores adhered to the Free Church. The charge was sanctioned in 1845 and the first minister was settled in 1847. The church, at Aldourie, was built about 1845, and a second church was erected around 1946 at Lochend. The congregation came from two parishes: Dores, on one side of the Caledonian valley, and Bona, on the other. Due to the geographical restrictions this imposed, they worshipped in their own churches. The congregation passed successively to the United Free Church (as Dores and Bona United Free) and the Established Church (as Bona Church of Scotland). In 1943 Bona united with the existing Church of Scotland congregation of Dores to become Dores and Bona Church of Scotland. The union was dissolved in 1973, however, and at the same time Dores was restored to full status and united with Stratherrick and Boleskine as Dores and Boleskine. Bona then united with Inverness Dalneigh as Inverness Dalneigh and Bona. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Inverness and the synod of Moray. |
