Rutherglen Stonelaw Church, Lanarkshire, began in the 1830s, when a number of parishioners of Rutherglen petitioned for adherence to the Relief Presbytery. Rutherglen Relief Church was established in 1835, with a church in King Street. The congregation became Rutherglen North United Free after 1900, but in 1912 moved to new premises in Stonelaw Road at Dryburgh Avenue, Rutherglen, and adopted the name Rutherglen Stonelaw United Free. They passed to the Church of Scotland in 1929. The Church of Scotland charge is in the presbytery of Glasgow and was formerly in the synod of Clydesdale. |
