Huntly (Antiburgher) United Presbyterian Church was created by Elgin Antiburgher Presbytery, itself formed in 1770. The first minister was appointed in 1771 to a congregation based partly in Huntly, partly in Cabrach and Grange. This almost foundered after 1800 over differences which were in part personal and in part theological, but the congregation was re-established with a new place of worship in 1809. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Huntly Princes Street, which united with Strathbogie in 1917 as Huntly United Free. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Banff and Strathbogie and the synod of Aberdeen. |
