Ford Associate (Burgher) Church originated with a Relief church north of Pathhead village in the parish of Borthwick. It was in existence in 1782, but the date of origin of the congregation is unknown. It adhered to the Burgher Presbytery of Edinburgh as a result of a petition in 1815, the first minister of the Burgher church being appointed in 1818. The congregation passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, and to the Church of Scotland, and united with Cranstoun and Crichton as Cranstoun, Crichton and Ford in 1949. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Dalkeith and the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. |
