Shearer Memorial Church, Glasgow, began as a United Presbyterian preaching station in Oatlands. In 1866 it became a separate congregation as Oatlands United Presbyterian (later United Free) Church. The church building, in Moffat Street at Caledonia Road, was dedicated in 1882. In 1908 Oatlands (I) United Free became Oatlands (II) United Free on uniting with Cumberland Street United Free. The congregation continued to worship in the former Oatlands building. In 1929 the name was changed to Shearer Memorial, in memory of a former minister. Shearer Memorial terminated in 1958 on uniting with Oatlands St Bernard?s as Oatlands Trinity. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Clydesdale. |
