history |
Irvine, East Church, Trinity Burgher Church originated as Trinity (Burgher) Church, when a group of inhabitants petitioned the Burgher Presbytery of Glasgow for supply of sermon in 1792. This was granted, but apparently only briefly and the first minister was not ordained until 1809. The congregation passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, in the latter case as Irvine Trinity, and to the Church of Scotland. It was linked with Irvine Wilson Fullarton in 1958 and the two were united as Irvine St Paul's in 1963. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Irvine and Kilmarnock and the synod of Ayr. |
