Crofthead, later Fauldhouse Free Church originated as Whitburn (or Longridge) (Burgher) Original Secession Church, Longridge being a village in Whitburn parish. It was formed in 1801 by a group dissenting from the New Light views of the Burgher Synod. The church adhered to the Original Secession Synod in 1842 and to the Free Church in 1852 as Crofthead (Longridge). After the minister's death in 1865 no minister was placed until 1872. The congregation passed successively to the United Free Church, as Fauldhouse, and the Church of Scotland, as Fauldhouse Crofthead. This was linked with Longridge and Breich in 1964 and united with Fauldhouse as Fauldhouse St Andrew's in 1973. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Bathgate (later Livingston and Bathgate) and the synod of Lothian and Tweeddale. |
