Killarrow and Kilmeny Free Church was formed at the Disruption, when the minister of Kilmeny adhered to the Free Church and was joined by others from Killarrow. A new church was built at Skerrols, opened in 1844. Members and adherents from Bowmore were disjoined to form a separate charge in 1859. The congregation passed to the United Free Church as Killarrow, although the minister remained with the Free Church. It was reduced in status in 1918, and from 1921 until 1929 was served by a missionary. In 1931 it united with Bowmore and with Skerrols, a Church of Scotland mission, as Kilarrow, which further united with Kilmeny in 1973. The United Free Church and Church of Scotland charges were both in the presbytery of Islay and the synod of Argyll. |
