Mordington and Paxton United Free Church originated as Mordington Free Church, which was formed at the Disruption, when the minister and most of the congregation adhered to the Free Church. It passed to the United Free Church and erected a new building in 1908, to replace one erected shortly after 1843. The new church was at Paxton, and the name was accordingly changed to Mordington and Paxton United Free in 1912. It transferred to the Church of Scotland as Paxton, which was reduced in status in 1946 and linked with Hutton and Fishwick from 1950. This eventually led to union as Hutton and Fishwick and Paxton in 1974. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Duns and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale. |
