Balmaghie Free Church originated soon after the Disruption in the village of Laurieston in Balmaghie parish. The church was erected in 1845, but the charge was not sanctioned until 1855. The first minister was appointed in the following year. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, in the latter case as Laurieston, which united with Balmaghie in 1949 as Balmaghie. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Kirkcudbright and synod of Dumfries. |
