Cairnie Free Church was formed at the Disruption, or even before, since the minister was one of those deposed in the Strathbogie case. The congregation then chose an acting missionary as theirminister. A new church was erected in 1844. As a United Free Church congregation it united with Botriphnie in 1926, and passed to the Church of Scotland three years later with the spelling changed to Cairney. Cairnie West united with it in 1930 as Cairney, which in turn united with Glass as Cairney-Glass in 1965. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce and the synod of Aberdeen. |
