Burnhead United Presbyterian Church originated as Burnhead Relief Church in the parish of Penpont, when a petition for supply of sermon was made to Dumfries Relief Presbytery in 1798. The congregation was formed in the following year. In 1900 the United Presbyterian Church and the Free Church united to form the United Free Church of Scotland, and this charge bacame Burnhead United Free Church of Scotland. A union took place in 1911 with Penpont West United Free, and the united congregation was named Scaurbridge and Burnhead United Free church. When the United Free Church passed back to the Established Church in 1929, the charge became Scaurbridge and Burnhead Church of Scotland. |
