Muckhart United Free Church had its origins in the accession of most of the inhabitants of Muckhart to the Associate Presbytery in 1734. The first services were not held until 1737 and a church was built in 1740. After the Breach of 1747 the congregation took the side of the Antiburghers (General Associate Synod) who later reunited with the Associate Synod to form the United Secession Church in 1820. In 1847 the church became part of the United Presbyterian Church in the Presbytery of Dunfermline and Kinross and in 1900 followed the United Presbyterian Church into the United Free Church. The congregation was united with Fossoway in 1921 but the union was dissolved in 1923. The Muckhart congregation was dissolved in 1925. |
