history |
Montrose First United Associate Church was formed by a Secession congregation from the town in 1740 and for a time was united with Dundee (later disjoined). At the Breach of 1747 most of the members joined the Antiburgher cause. It passed successively to the United Presbyterians, as Montrose, St Luke's (Antiburgher) or Mill Street, to the United Free Church, and to the Church of Scotland, as Montrose St Luke's, which united with Montrose St John's as Montrose St Luke's and St John's in 1953. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Brechin and Fordoun and the synod of Angus and Mearns. |
