In 1861 the Free Presbytery of Dundee approved the erection of a further church in the East of Broughty Ferry. A preaching station had been opened on 9 July 1862 in a former Episcopal chapel under the supervision of Broughty Ferry West and was sanctioned a charge on 2 June 1863. The church building was opened in 1865. In 1870 a hall was added and a manse built in 1877. A harmonium was introduced in 1888 and replaced by a pipe organ in 1894. A larger hall opened in 1960 and the church was redecorated in 1961, renovated in 1965 and 1968, and refurbished in 1987. Broughty Ferry East Free became Broughty Ferry East United Free in 1900 and Broughty Ferry East in 1929. |
