Allanton Free Church was organised at the Disruption by the minister of Abbey St Bathans. A church was built in 1844 at some distance from the village, no nearer site being obtainable. The congregation was at first drawn from several surrounding parishes, some of which later acquired their own Free Church charges. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland charge, which was in the presbytery of Duns and the synod of Merse and Teviotdale, united with Edrom as Edrom-Allanton in 1947. |
