Port Glasgow West Free Church was established for the westward part of the town in 1873 under Port Glasgow Hamilton Free Church. An iron church was erected and the charge was sanctioned in 1878. It was not a success: the site was ill-chosen and the town did not expand as expected. It passed to the United Free Church, but united with Port Glasgow Newark United Free under that name in 1905. The United Free charge was in the presbytery of Greenock and the synod of Glasgow. |
