Kilmacolm, Reformed Presbyterian Church (Old Dissenters) originated in 1785, when Renfrewshire RP congregation disjoined from Ayrshire and built a church at Kilmacolm two years later. The adherents were scattered through a wide area, not merely in Renfrewshire, but also across the Clyde in Dunbartonshire and Argyll. From 1804 onwards daughter churches were established in Paisley and elsewhere. In 1854 the centre moved to Port Glasgow, where the congregation passed successively to the Free Church (1876), the United Free Church (1900) and the Church of Scotland (1929). |
