Kilbarchan Relief Church began with a petition to the Relief Presbytery of Glasgow in 1786. The first minister was ordained in 1788 and the church completed in the following year. It passed successively to the United Presbyterian and United Free Churches, and to the Church of Scotland, as Kilbarchan East. The Church of Scotland charge is in the presbytery of Greenock and Paisley (formerly Paisley) and was in the synod of Clydesdale until the abolition of synods in 1993. The congregations of Kilbarchan East and Kilbarchan West united in 2015 to form Kilbarchan Parish Church of Scotland. |
