Coatbridge, Whifflet Free Church began as a mission station, formed in Whifflet in 1874 for Carnbroe and Whifflet. An iron church was put up in 1875, the charge was sanctioned in 1879 and a permanent church was erected in 1883. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland. Coatbridge Calder was formed in 1978 by the union of Coatbridge Garturk and Coatbridge Whifflet. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Hamilton and the synod of Clydesdale. |
