The congregation of Echt Free Church was established in 1843, the year of the Disruption, and the charge was later sanctioned in 1850. In the beginning, service was provided by a probationer stationed at Cluny and the session met within a barn until a church was erected in 1848. In 1900, at the time of the union of the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Echt Free Church became Echt United Free and in 1929, following the union of the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Echt United Free was renamed Monecht Church of Scotland. In 1932 the Kirk Session of Monecht Church of Scotland, which sat within the Presbytery of Aberdeen (previously Deeside United Free Presbytery and also Kincardine O'Neil Free Presbytery), was dissolved. |
