The congregation of Duns East, which belonged to the Antiburgher branch of the Secession Church, was first established in 1739 during which year sermon was first provided. Over the next three years, due to a lack of available preachers, sermon only took place within Duns at irregular intervals however in 1742, in response to a desire for a permanent session, the antiburgher residents of Duns erected a church and in the following year the first minister of Duns East, United Presbyterian, John White, was ordained. The church was later rebuilt in 1843. In 1900, at the time of the union between the United Presbyterians and the Free Church, Duns East United Presbyterian became Duns East United Free Church and following the 1929 union of the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, Duns East United Free became Duns East Church of Scotland. A number of years thereafter in 1932 the congregation was dissolved and the church sold. |
