Shandon Free Church was formed as a congregation at the Disruption, with a church built at Shandon in 1844, to serve a large district originally including Garelochhead, which was not itself a separate charge until 1873. It passed successively to the United Free Church and the Church of Scotland, and was first linked with Rhu in 1954 and then united with it as Rhu and Shandon in 1970. The Church of Scotland charge was in the presbytery of Dumbarton and the synod of Clydesdale. |
