Newton Place Church, Glasgow, originated with the formation of a congregation in Partick which petitioned the Relief Presbytery for adherence in 1823. This became Partick Newton Place Relief Church, with a church building at 259 Dumbarton Road. The original building (1824) was replaced by another on the same site in 1865. Two year later the congregation became Newton Place United Presbyterian Church (after 1900 United Free). The congregation terminated in 1977 on uniting with Partick Anderson as Partick South. As a Church of Scotland charge it was in the presbytery of Glasgow and was formerly in the synod of Clydesdale. |
