Martyrs? (I) Church, Glasgow, was built by the established church in 1838 in Monkland Street near Castle Street, close to the traditional site of two executions for heresy in 1539. The minister and part of the congregation came out at the Disruption, but continued to use the building for a time. Thereafter it was used by Barony Church for evangelical activity. It was disjoined from Townhead in 1876 as Martyrs? Parish Church quoad sacra, and terminated in 1945 on uniting with Robertson Memorial as Martyrs' (II). It was in the presbytery of Glasgow and the synod of Glasgow and Ayr (later Clydesdale). |
