In 1823 a second chapel-of-ease was requested by the Kirk Session of St Cuthbert's to serve it's extensive parish and a church was duly erected in Claremont Street within St Cuthbert's, by the name of Stockbridge Chapel. The General Assembly gave quoad sacra status to the chapel in 1834, and also renamed it St Bernard's, and in 1851 the Court of Teinds disjoined the parish of St Bernard's from St Cuthbert's. In 1980 Edinburgh St Bernard's united with St Bernard's Davidson under the name of St Bernard's Stockbridge and a further union followed in 1992 with Edinburgh St Stephen's to form the session of Edinburgh Stockbridge. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
