The congregation of Juniper Green St Margaret's dates from 1892, the year in which a church was opened within the Juniper Green district of the parish of Colinton, having been purchased from Craiglockhart with the help of a Home Mission grant.. The foundation stone of the parish church was laid only a few years thereafter in 1895 and the new church opened in 1897 by the Rev Archibald Scott, Moderator of the General Assembly. The recently erected chapel became Juniper Green chapel-of-ease in the following year and in 1906 the parish of Juniper Green St Margaret's was disjoined from Colinton and erected by the Court of Teinds into a parish quoad sacra. Juniper Green St Margaret's later united with Juniper Green St Andrew's in 1974, under the name of Juniper Green, and the former St Margaret's church was subsequently demolished. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Edinburgh. |
