Prior to the reformation the church of Langton was dedicated to St Cuthbert and it belonged to the Abbey of Kelso. A new parish church was erected in 1798 at the village of Gavinton, which was later rebuilt in 1872. In 1932, after the 1929 union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, Langton Parish Church joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Langton. Following the local union the former Langton United Free church was sold in 1950. Additionally in 1950 Langton united with Polwarth under the name of Langton and Polwarth. Both churches continued in use for worship after this date and a link was later established in 1983 with Kirk of Lammermuir. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Duns. |
