The Kirk Session of Houston and Killellan was established in 1759 when the Commissioners for the Plantation of Kirks united the two parishes together. The parish church at Houston, which held a dedication to St Peter, was later rebuilt in 1874. In 1941 the former United Free Church congregation of Houston West united with Houston Killellan, after the union the parish church continued in use as the place of worship and a new church hall was built on the ruins of the former West Church, which had been destroyed by fire a number of years prior in 1941. A link was later established in 1972 with Bridge of Weir Freeland however this arrangement was terminated in 1977. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Paisley. |
