The Kirk Session of Innerleithen (also known as Innerliethen Old) was established following the Reformation in 1560. Ministers to the parish are recorded from 1585, although there is a listing for a Patrick Sanderson as exhorter, as early as 1563. Following the establishment of presbyteries by the General Assembly in 1581, the Kirk Session of Innerleithen became part of the Presbytery of Peebles. With the restructuring of presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. Over the years, several changes have been made to the parish: in 1650, part of the Parish of Yarrow was disjoined and added to Innerleithen; in 1674, it absorbed the northern portion of the parish of Kailzie; in 1960, it united with Innerleithen Craigside, keeping the name Innerleithen; in 1975, it was linked with Walkerburn; and in 1984 it was linked with Traquair. |
