The church of Rhynie, which was known of old as Kilrynie, was dedicated to St Luag and was formerly a prebend of the Cathedral of Elgin. In 1612 Rhynie was united with the ancient parish of Essie and after the union services continued in both parish churches until around the year 1767 when Essie parish church ceased to be used. Following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Rhynie Parish Church joined with the former United Free Church congregation of Rhynie South. After the local union the former South church was converted for use as a church hall. In 1958 a link was established with the charge of Clatt and in 1985 the session of Noth was formed when Clatt with Rhynie united with Gartly with Kennethmont. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Strathbogie until 1961 when, by Act of Assembly, the Presbytery of Strathbogie and the Presbytery of Fordyce were united together under the name of the Presbytery of Strathbogie and Fordyce. Following the restructuring of the Presbyteries in 1976, it became part of the Presbytery of Gordon. |
