In 1794, a chapel-of-ease was erected at Renton by Sir John Stirling of Renton who provided a stipend of £80 a year, this chapel was later replace in 1836 by a church built at Houndwood. The church at Houndwood continued initially to served as a chapel-of-ease however in 1851 the Parish of Houndwood was erected by the Court of Teinds. The parish church was later renovated and enlarged in 1900. In 1952 Houndswood established a link with the former United Free Church congregation of Grantshouse and in 1973 the linking arrangement was terminated in favour of a union between the two sessions, under the name of Grantshouse and Houndwood. The united charge was linked in the same year with Renton and a further link followed in 1984 with Ayton with Burnmouth. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chirnside and later of Duns. |
