The church of Douglas, which was rebuilt in 1781, was dedicated to St Bride and was formerly a prebend of Glasgow. Of the ancient church, the choir and the south aisle were left standing and were carefully preserved by the Earl of Home whose ancestors lie buried within. In 1963 Douglas Parish church, which was termed in later years, Douglas Old St Brides was united with the former United Free Church congregation of Douglas New St Brides, under the name of Douglas St Brides. A link was later established in 1977 with Douglas Water and Rigside. The kirk session sits within the Presbytery of Lanark. |
