In around the year 1654 the modern parish boundaries of Twynholm were established when the ancient parishes of Twynholm and of Kirkchrist were united together. In 1730 the parish church of Twynholm, which formerly belonged to the Abbey of Holyrood, was rebuilt and in 1813 a new parish church was erected on an alternative site. In 1960 Tongland formed a link with Twynholm and in 1977 a further link was established with Borgue. The arrangement with Borgue however was terminated in 1988 and Twynholm and Tarff united on the same date under the name of Tarff and Twynholm. An additional link also followed on the same date with Balmaghie. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Kirkcudbright, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright. |
