The vicarage of Largs belonged of old to the Abbey of Paisley and its church, which is known to have existed long before the middle of the 13th century, was dedicated to St Columba. Ministry of the session is recorded from 1564, in the person of David Neil. During the year 1812 the parish church of Largs was removed to a new site, and this new building underwent significant alterations and additions in 1832. The north transept of the old parish church, which is thought to have been erected in the 17th century, still stands in the churchyard. The present church building was opened in 1892. Largs Kirk Session sat within the Presbytery of Greenock is presently within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Ardrossan. |
