A Quoad Sacra church was built at Greenhead in 1840 and the parish of Greenhead was disjoined from Calton in 1876. In 1929 when the United Free Church passed back to the Established Church, the name of the congregation changed to Greenhead West Church of Scotland to differentiate it from the former United Free congregation (Greenhead East). These two charges united in 1937 taking the old name of Greenhead Church of Scotland. A further union took place with Bridgeton West and Barrowfield Church on 25 March 1962. The united charge was named Greenhead Barrowfield Church and worshipped under the ministry of Rev J Mackenzie, erstwhile minister of Bridgeton West and Barrowfield. Further unions were brought about: the first with the congregation of Calton New in 1971 (the name Calton New was retained for the united charge): and secondly with St Andrew's Church of Scotland in 1993, the united charge taking the name of St Luke's and St Andrew's Church of Scotland. |
