The Kirk Session of Knockbain was known of old as Kilmuir Wester and Suddy, the two ancient parishes having been united together in 1756 by the Lords Commissioners of Teinds. The old parish church of Kilmuir-Wester, which had a dedication to St Mary, was removed from Kilmuir to Knockbain in 1762. In 1934, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, Kilmuir Parish Church united with the former United Free Church congregation of Knockbain South. Following the union the former South church was demolished. In 1999 Knockbain established a link with Killearnan. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Chanonry, later of Chanonry and Dingwall and following the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 it became part of the Presbytery of Ross. |
