During the 17th and 18th centuries, Inverness, as with most villages and towns in Scotland, was experiencing rapid population growth and as a result, a need was created for additional accommodation for worship. In response to this requirement a second charge was established for the parish of Inverness in 1624 and the West Church was later erected in 1835 to accommodate the congregation of this charge. Inverness West (second charge) has fallen within the Presbytery of Inverness throughout its existence. A new church was built for this congregation and the name changed to Inverness, Inshes Church of Scotland on 15 April 2003. |
