The Kirk Session of Tarbert was disjoined from Kilcalmonell and South Knapdale on the 20th July 1864 and a new parish church was later constructed in 1886, replacing an earlier building which had been erected as a mission church in 1775. In 1943, following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church, the Parish Church of Tarbert (also known as Tarbert West) united with the former United Free Church congregation of Tarbert East, under the name of Tarbert. After the union the parish church , following restoration work, continued in use as the place of worship and the former United Free church was converted for use as the church hall. In 1965 Tarbert formed a link with Kilberry. The kirk session sat within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Inveraray until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976 when it became part of the Presbytery of South Argyll. |
