The parish of Ardgour formerly formed part of Ballachuilish but was disjoined in 1894 and erected as a separated parish, quoad sacra. In addition to the parish church, which was erected in 1829 by the parliamentary commissioners and built to Thomas Telford's design, there was a mission chapel within the bounds of the parish at Kingairloch. Prior to 1829 church services had taken place in the open air. In 1927 Ardgour established a link with Strontian and in 1954 a further link was formed with the Small Isles, this arrangement with the Small Isles was however terminated in 1959. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Abertarff and presently falls within the jurisdiction of the Presbytery of Lochaber. |
