The church of Mauchline, Ayrshire, originally served a medieval parish which was appropriated to Melrose Abbey. The parish of Dalgain (later Sorn) was disjoined from it in the 17th century. Mauchline church was rebuilt in 1829, replacing a structure which had several associations with Robert Burns. After the union of 1929 it became Mauchline Old, but united with Mauchline North as Mauchline in 1976. The charge is in Ayr presbytery and was in the synod of Glasgow and Ayr until the reorganisation of 1929, thereafter in the synod of Ayr. |
