The Parish Church of Ardrishaig was first built in 1860, on a site granted by the Commissioners of the Crinan Canal, and was initially used by the Royal Bounty Missionaries. The Parish of Ardrishaig was later disjoined from Lochgilphead and South Knapdale in 1875. In 1929 following the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church Ardrishaig was known as Ardrishaig-Rhu to diffrientiate it from the former United Free charge of Ardrishaig North. However, these two charges united in 1945, the joint charge reverting to the simple name of Ardrishaig Church of Scotland. After the union the former North church was converted for use as a church hall and the old parish church continued to serve as the place of worship. A link was later formed with Knapdale South in 1964. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Inverary, until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of South Argyll. |
