The parish church of Kilmuir was, in around the year 1600, removed from its location of old at Kilmaluag and relocated to Kilmuir, where it replaced an ancient chapel. The parish church of Kilmuir was later rebuilt in 1810. Ministry of Kilmuir Kirk Session is recorded from 1644 in the person of Archibald MacQueen. In 1929, the year in which the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church were joined together, Kilmuir Parish church formed a union with the former United Free Church Session of Kilmuir. After the union in 1936 the old parish church was sold and partly demolished and a new mission church was built at Kilmaluag in 1935. In 1974 Kilmuir established a link was Stenscholl and the two charges later united in 1981 to form the session of Kilmuir and Stenscholl. The kirk session sat within the Presbytery of Skye until the restructuring of the presbyteries in 1976, when it became part of the Presbytery of Lochcarron-Skye. |
